Mindhunters

Review – Renny Harlin’s new film is not a complete waste.  It has a decent premise and a fun cast, but when the going gets tough it gives in to the expected pratfalls of most thrillers.

Mindhunters sees a group of would-be FBI profilers taking their final exam.  The exam is a group effort to be carried out on an isolated island just off the east coast.  A murder is planned and it’s up to the students to profile the serial killer, identify the killer’s M.O., and predict / stop the next killing.

This, of course, goes horribly wrong when the students begin being killed.  At that point all bets are off and the movie loses control.  In a movie about FBI profilers I expected more thinking from the characters.  These people are going to be a “Think-Tank”, so to speak, and I expect them to use their brains.

Instead they just lose their minds and the characters fall into accusations until more deaths tell them that maybe they were wrong in thinking that this person was the real killer.  It’s not sad, it’s just typical, and it makes Mindhunters feel like a bit of a cop-out.

I really enjoy these types of psychological thrillers and I take it a bit hard when they take the psychology out and replace it with Hollywood silliness.

Mindhunters may prove to be a semi-entertaining ride but it’ll be based on seeing this cast of actors meet each of their own demises.
